How to create Vrbo promotions

Now in CiiRUS, set specific promotions and discounts for guests booking your listings through Vrbo

Vrbo promotions are a powerful way to help your listings stand out, drive more bookings, and reach exactly the right travelers at the right time. CiiRUS gives you full control to create Vrbo-specific promotional campaigns that support early bookings, fill last-minute gaps, reward mobile shoppers, and attract Vrbo One-Key Members.

Best of all, eligible discounts are displayed directly on Vrbo with strikethrough pricing, making your listings visually pop in search results.


Where to Find Vrbo Promotions

In CiiRUS, go to:

Connections → Channel Manager → Vrbo → Configure Promotions

This tab is dedicated to Vrbo promos only. Anything you create here will sync directly to Vrbo and appear to guests during their search.


Promotion Categories

You can create four kinds of Vrbo promotions:

1. Early-Bookings Promotions

Encourage travelers to secure their stay well in advance. Great for capturing revenue earlier and locking in high-value bookings.

2. Last-Minute Promotions

Perfect for filling those tricky gaps in the calendar. Guests hunting for a quick getaway often respond strongly to small but meaningful discounts.

3. Mobile-Only Promotions

Most Vrbo guests browse on mobile first. These promotions help your listing stand out on phones and reward modern, on-the-go shoppers.

4. Member-Only Promotions

Vrbo/Expedia One-Key Members are typically high-quality travelers. Offering member-exclusive deals can attract better guests and encourage longer stays.


Creating a Promotion

To begin creating a new promotion, select from one of the four categories and click the blue button to create a new promo.

You'll be presented with the following menu:

1. Name the Promotion

Give your promo a clear internal name, such as:

  • “Early Bird Winter 2026”

  • “Last-Minute Gap Filler”

  • “Mobile Flash Sale”

  • “One-Key VIP Discount”

This name is for your own reference inside CiiRUS.

2. Choose the Discount Type

Vrbo supports three discount structures. Pick the one that matches the behavior you want to encourage.

A. Single Discount

A straightforward discount applied evenly across the grand total; can be percentage-based or a fixed amount. It's simple, predictable, and easy for guests to understand.

B. Day-of-Week Discounts

Set unique discounts for specific days of the week.

Example:
If you set Thursdays to 20% off, any guest staying on a Thursday receives 20% off that night only. This is ideal if you’re trying to boost occupancy on specific slower weekdays.

You can configure each day to use a fixed amount or percentage.

C. Multi-Night Discount (Every Nth Night)

This one is a bit different: the discount is applied to every Nth night of a stay.

Example:
If you set “Every 4th night gets 50% off”:

  • A guest staying 4 nights gets one discounted night

  • A guest staying 8 nights gets two

  • A guest staying 14 nights gets three

It rewards longer stays in a way that feels meaningful but still controlled.

3. Set the Discount Amount

Depending on the type, enter a percentage or a fixed dollar amount. If you’re using day-of-week discounts, you’ll set an amount for each applicable day.

4. Define the Booking Window

This determines when the traveler must book to qualify.

The wording changes depending on the promotion category:

  • Early Booking: “Guest must book between X and Y days in advance”

  • Last Minute: “Guest must book X days or fewer before arrival”

You can also make the booking window evergreen.

Evergreen example:
Instead of “30–100 days in advance,” you could set “30+ days in advance” and let it run indefinitely. Checking the evergreen box removes the upper or lower limit so the rule stays open-ended.

5. Set the Stay Dates (Travel Window)

This controls the stay period the promotion applies to. For example:

  • “Valid for stays between Jan 1 and Jan 31, 2026”

You can also make the stay window evergreen.

Evergreen example:
“Any stay after January 1, 2026”

This is great for long-running strategic promotions.

6. Choose Which Listings Apply

You can:

  • Apply the promotion to all listings, or

  • Select specific properties

This gives you flexibility; for instance, offering promotions only on homes that need help booking or running a special for a particular region.

7. Enable or Disable Promo

After configuring and saving your promo, be sure to toggle this blue switch on or off depending on if you want the promo to be active.


What Guests Will See

When your promotion is active and the booking qualifies, Vrbo automatically displays strikethrough pricing.

For example:

This visual treatment makes your listing jump out in search results and often leads to higher conversions.


Tips for Making the Most of Vrbo Promotions

  • Pair an early-booking promo with your strongest seasons to secure revenue earlier.

  • Use last-minute promos to fill unexpected gaps or shoulder-season vacancies.

  • Mobile-exclusive promos can boost visibility in search results where most travelers browse.

  • Member-only deals often attract highly engaged, high-value guests.

  • Don’t be afraid to run more than one promo—as long as their date and booking windows don’t conflict.
